Poetess, when your voice unbuttons your gown
When clear and pure as the plain sky
You bend to look without blinking on the human world
I know that your heart is made of the same materials as that of other men
Only theirs is not virgin
O pity, she is alone at the bounds of the world
Her countenance like a glare, the front of war
But do not turn aside until the paper of Paris has become scarce
Let this be the return for what you have suffered
1927-28
